Article Review : Improve Organizational Citizenship Behaviors – By Min-Huei Chien

It is my belief that the paper by Min-Huei Chien examines the relationship between organizational effectiveness and organization citizenship behavior (OCB). This paper talks about the implication of OCB and suggests different ways of improving it. The findings are important for any public and private organizations to build up the organizational competence and effectiveness. High performances of the organization play vital role to improve high job satisfaction to their employees and would also cherish excellence and effectiveness. The research is conducted based on the paradigms: statement of the problem, significance of the study, defining organization citizenship behavior, importance of OCB, review of selected literature, OCB influence and operational efficiency, job satisfaction, motivation, conclusion and summary.

This paper presented many researched finding on OCB for its implications and effectiveness in public and private organizations to mitigate publics’ queries. It is argued that OCB can be extremely valuable to organizational performance and effectiveness through the function directed work at individual, groups and an organization. The importance of OCB in the recent time describes the actions in which employees are willing to go above and beyond their prescribed requirements. The finding of the research shows that five categories of OCB altruism, courtesy, conscientiousness, sportsmanship and civic virtue offer a different rationale for this relationship and uplift the organization.

In this article, Chien presents personal view on OCB for finding job satisfaction to be the best predicator. The research accepts three motive paradigm i.e. affiliation motive, achievement motive and power motive. There may be direct or indirect outcomes of OCB that are related to the employees motives. OCB helps organization to make it strong, competitive and profitable.

In my opinion this research is well plotted. It has got a systematic flow on the research of OCB. The language of the paper is understandable with suitable examples and terminologies. This paper is good for the researchers, educators, leaders, managers, etc. The references and cited concepts are authentic. This paper adds some recent finding of OCB and its implications, which are vital to enhance the capability of employees to fulfill the demands of citizens. This article also suggests interested candidates to conduct further research which is helpful to build up an ideal organization. I believe this article gives useful insights for the researchers, leaders, educators, & managers to run organization smoothly.
