The government of Nepal has made the web portal live that can be used to view the ICU beds and rooms available in hospitals in Nepal. In the web portal released by the Ministry of Health which is currently in the testing Beta phase, the number of beds available in the hospitals all over Nepal can be viewed as per different provinces and districts.
The screenshot of the web portal is displayed below and, the hospitals capacity, its current status and the number of patients waiting, can be observed. The user can filter the data by hospital, province or district. In the example shown here, the hospital information for Chitwan district is shown. It is also possible to download the data in spreadsheet format such as Excel.
With the recent exponential rise in COVID-19 cases in Nepal, the limited health infrastructure in the country is under huge stress. It is seen the doctors and nurses are working tirelessly. The country is still struggling to supply the oxygen demand and the patients are seen to be staying outside hospitals on the floors due to unavailability of space. The country common citizens find it extremely challenging to find a place in a hospital.
The ministry of health initiative to make the live web portal to dissipate the vacant bed information in the hospitals can be seen as a positive sign. However, the questions are being asked if real information will be shown on the website and if the hospitals will be put under scrutiny which are hiding the information.
