It’s really hard for a girl during her mensuration time as we have been schooled that the girl can’t touch anything can’t go in the kitchen, temple etc. she has to live her life for 5 days in an isolated place as she has done some kind of sin or whatever. This rule really applies for most of the girls in Nepalese family. I know we are living in 21st century where man and women are treated equally but to be burn in a Hindu family it’s a shame. The most stupid and dumb part arrives when the girl can’t even a sanitary pad and use a regular cloth or something just to stop the bleeding. Do you even realize how unhygienic and dangerous it can be turn to?

Well it is all about the level of awareness, because people with low income have hard time providing two meals a day to their family let alone buying a sanitary pad packet. Sanitary napkins are not affordable to all economic strata in Nepal which is a shame. The problem mainly lies in the cost of these products. If they were affordable then lot more women would be willing to buy disposable sanitary products. It’s very difficult to make old folks understand that it’s normal. Even the literate people home follow the superstition. The girls are not supposed to touch anything during their periods but luckily she is standing in the same ground as we are how ironic. It’s a myth that these traditions are only followed by mostly everyone in our society. Some people pointed out that these practical began as a boon for girls. Because back in the day’s isolations gave women a chance to rest and take care of themselves but how is isolating in a room and not allowing participating in household activities is a boon? It is not an unknown fact that during period women gotta deal a lot of hormonal changes and are mentally and emotionally vulnerable. Lot of women has committed suicide on their periods because of the psychological effect that they have been going through the isolation and stupid religious traditions.

So periods should be normal as we are talking about cold. It needs to be normalize as soon as possible and no one to wait for.
