‘Understanding professionals and their workplaces: The mission of the Journal of Professions and Organizations (JPO)’ by Brock, M. D., Leblebici, H. & Muzio, D. is an editorial article with new mission to explore the growing importance of professions and organizations. In an organization, previous learning, experiences and contemporary knowledge about intensive societies, bring the expert knowledge and skills to bear in a widening variety of economic and social settings. Professionals have to play crucial role in their respective professions to get better result.
The focus of this article seems to be more at the micro or field levels rather than organizations. JPO has planned to judge four interlinking dimensions like scope, quality, diversity, and community in research article. The four dimensions indicate the core theme of JPO. Based on these dimensions, all authors of the article will receive constructive and developmental comments on researcher’s paper within nine weeks. JPO also aims to become the premier outlet for research on organizational issues concerning professionals, including their work, management and their broader social economic role. They planned to make their journal quite unique.
JPO’s mission is to expand their profession, work and organization. The writers have planned to address five interconnected subjects in research articles. They are organizational models and structure, micro-organization issues, diversity, inclusion and the professionals, new/emerging professions and organization, and societal issues: professions and professional organization in the broader political economy. The core theme of the journal is to find out the impact of professions and professional organizations. But it is lacking on the way how to select and give emphasis on particular issues to change existing ideas. The writers believed that JPO would be a venue for multi-disciplinary debates around the agency of professionals and how this affects broader societal and economic institutions. But this article is lacking how to interlink different cultural diversity in the journal. JPO planned to get possible steps that help to make an organization as an ideal one.
The writers have planned to make JPO as an umbrella term to capture the area of organization behavior. Corporate Governance and ethical norms are the major areas of focus. JPO tried to break down the dominant useless culture. But clear path is not mentioned how to breakdown the culture and its possible impact in the future. JPO has planned to deliver new trend of organization and encouraged to implement it. The article captures the broad area of implementing new strategies and philosophy to gather new trend through research. Furthermore, the writers try to analyze the researched article under five different categories which doesn’t seem clear enough. The writers haven’t mentioned the possible ways of writing authentic researched article and the ways of judging it. I believe JPO gives useful insights for the researchers, leaders, educators, & managers to run organization smoothly and build up the strength of professionalisms.
