Kai Havertz first half goal separates the two team as Chelsea beat Premier League Champions Manchester City 1-0 to lift their second Champions League trophy. Chelsea was at their best on the finale, having lost FA Cup final few weeks back and was lucky to be on the top four of the Premier League after losing to Aston Villa on the last day of the Premier League game week.
Thomas Tuchel side showed immense resilience nullify attacking powerhouse Manchester city and was calm when they had the ball upfront. Timo Werner and Kai Havertz were making dangerous runs and creating problems for the City backline for most of the games and Chelsea were rewarded on the 42nd minute when Havertz went past Ederson to score his first goal for Chelsea in the Champions League and probably the most important goal of his Chelsea carrier.
Much anticipated night for Manchester City, which turned out to be disappointing night for Pep Guardiola’s men as they had just one shot on target. It was the only title remaining for City’s side to win who has won 3 Premier league title in last 4 years. Manchester City dominated the game for the last part of the game but could not break the Chelsea defense.
This is a first trophy for manager Thomas Tuchel who arrived for Chelsea Legend Frank Lampard on the middle of the season and turned around Chelsea fortunes, guiding Chelsea to top 4 finish, FA Cup final and by winning the Champions League trophy.
Both City and Chelsea lost their star man due to injury during the game. Chelsea lost their most experienced defender Thiago Silva due to injury on the first half but it was City who was effected the most as their star talisman Kevin De Bruyne had to be substituted due to injury.
With this win, Chelsea has beaten Manchester City three times this second half of the season, FA Cup Semi Final, Premier League and Champions League Final.
