COVID-19 pandemic since the beginning of January 2019 has created havoc all around the world. Today even after almost 1.5 years since the virus first showed up in Wuhan, China, the world has not been able to contain the virus. In this article, we present you with some facts on COVID-19 cases, deaths and test as of 29 May 2021.
In Fig. 1, we present the countries that had the most COVID-19 cases. It is observed that the USA had more than 30 million COVID-19 cases that are around 10% of their population. India is seen to overtake the USA with the rising number of cases while the USA seems to have gained control of the virus with the mass vaccination drive. India had 27 million cases as of data of 29 May 2021. Four European countries – France, UK, Italy and Germany are in the top 10 with most cases. Brazil also seems to have been affected a lot making it third in the list along with another South American country Argentina that is 9th in the list.

In Fig. 2, the countries with the most deaths from COVID-19 is presented. USA had more than 600,000 deaths from COVID-19 followed by Brazil with 450,000+ deaths. India is third on the list with 300,000+ deaths. UK, Italy and Germany had the most number of deaths in Europe.

In Fig. 3, the tests per million population vs countries is presented. Denmark is seen to have done the most test per million population. Denmark has a lower death toll compared to other European countries. The significance of testing, contact tracing and isolating the infected patients had been stressed by the health practitioners. Denmark must have saved many lives with such steps. UAE, Austria and the UK are other countries with a large population that made the top 10 list with most tests per million population.

In Fig. 4, deaths per million population against the country is shown in the form of bar charts. Hungary had the most deaths per million population. Among the country with a large population, it is seen Brazil had the most deaths per million population. The death toll in Brazil is the second-highest just after the USA as seen in Fig. 2.
