Nepal lost the friendly football match against Iraq by 6-2. The Iraqi captain Alaa Abdur Zahrah scored the first goal in the 7th minute of the match held at Al Fayhaa International Football stadium in Basra. However, in the 8th minute, there was a suicide goal by Iraqi Ahmed Ibrahim Khalaf and the scores were level. In the 30th minute of the match, Manish Dangi scored a goal for Nepal. Nepal was leading until the 40th minute of the match.
The Iraqi footballer Mohammad Abdulzahra scored a goal in the 40th minute, and Aymen Hussein from Iraq scored again in the 41st minute. Following his first goal, Hussein scored again in the injury time of the first time and Iraq finished the first half at 4-2.
In the second half, Iraq scored further two goals. Mohanad Ali Alshammari scored the fifth goal for Iraq in the 68th minute and Sajjad Jasim scored another goal in the 75th minute.
Nepal played a friendly match against Iraq as preparation for selection matches of Fifa World Cup 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023. Iraq is a stronger team in football than Nepal and is ranked 68th in FIFA rankings whereas Nepal is ranked 171st.
