The officials in Vietnam have informed that they have detected the hybrid variant of COVID-19 that is the combination of UK and the Indian variant. THe health minister of Vietnam Nguyen Thanh Long said that the hybrid variant as a result of the latest mutation seems “very dangerous”. The mutation of the virus is a normal occurrence, however some mutations can make the virus more contagious and deadly. Mr Nguyen said that the new variant looks more transmissible than the old variants especially in the air.
Earlier, the COVID-19 variant identified in the UK, known as B.1.1.7 was found to be life threatening in most cases. The one found in India, called as B.1.671.2 was found to be highly contagious that paralyzed the whole country. With this new variant found in Vietnam, that seems to be the combination of the Indian and the UK variants, Vietnam has enforced strict social distancing measures and announced the COVID-19 tests of all the people living in the most populated city, Ho Chi Minh.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that four variants of COVID-19 found in India, the UK, South Africa and Brazil seem to be concerning. WHO technical leader for COVID-19, Maria Van Kerkhove informed that assessment for the variant found in Vietnam is still undergoing.
