The authorized distributor for Korean company Hyundai has updated the car price of two electric cars after the tax was reduced in the recently announced budget. Laxmi Intercontinental Private Limited, the authorized distributor for Nepal has made the price public of its two popular cars Hyundai KONA and IONIQ.
As expected the price has decreased significantly, as the finance Minister Bishnu Paudel presented the budget that reduced the tax for the electric cars significantly. The import tax for the electric car is only 10% for the 100KW motor electric vehicle.
The new price for Hyundai Kona with 100KW motor is 56 lakhs and 96 thousand. Similarly, Hyundai Kona with 150 KW motor costs 71 lakhs and ninety six thousand. The Hyundai IONIQ which has a 100 KW motor costs fifty seven lakhs and ninety six thousand. The battery in Hyundai IONIQ is 38.3 kilowatt hour(kWh) that can give the range upto 270 kilometers. The company claims Hyundai KONA with 64 kWh battery can give a range of 484 kilometers.
Last year, the then finance minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada had increased the taxes for the electric vehicle significantly. Though the government had made an ambitious plan replacing the diesel and petrol operated vehicles, such steps of increasing the taxes were considered as a step moving backward in the clean energy direction.
