LG has stopped its manufacturing plant of phones and tablets and the industry is being transitioned to work for making home appliances. The company had confirmed in early April about its exit from the smartphone business. However, the company needed some time for transition.The company will be providing support for the existing devices. The premium models will get software support of upto 3 years. The factory in Vietnam where most smartphones were being manufactured is transformed to building home appliances now. As per the report from Korean Herald, LG electronics is working to become the largest home appliances supplier. The second quarter for the home appliances unit looked lucrative with the record sales of $6.3 billion.
As per the report in LG press release, LG plans to reallocate all the workers in Vietnam plant within a year. The president of LG in Vietnam, Jung Hai-jin, said that the closing of LG’s smart phone business will not impact the employees, or business of the plant.
It has to be noted that LG is not the only notable company exiting from the smartphone business. Companies like HTC, Sony have partially exited or restructured their mobile business facilities.
