Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, (SOHR), in Britain has revealed on a report on Tuesday that about 5 lakh people had lost their lives in the decade long Civil War that desecrated the country. The report stated that 4 lakhs, 94 thousand 4 hundred and 38 people had lost their lives as of May 30, 2021. The decade long war begun with the Syrian Revolution in March 15, 2011.
A report released earlier in March 2021 stated 3 lakhs 88 thousand had lost their lives. On revising the statistics, 1 lakh 5 thousand and 15 more deaths were identified.
Majority of people lost their lives in between late 2012 till November of 2015 said Abdel Rahaman, who is in charge of the Observatory.
1 lakh 59 thousand 7 hundred and 74 people had lost their lives due to attacks by the Syrian Government while 68 thousand 3 hundred and 93 Jihadist too had died.
The minimum number of deaths happened in year 2020 as the government and the rebels both shifted their focus towards the Corona Virus Pandemic. Only 10 thousand deaths have been reported in 2020.
