This game was already decided when the Lakers star Anthony Davis was out for the line up due to an injury. The Lakers were 1-6 this season against the playoffs team when Davis did not play. The suns played phenomenal on Tuesday night. They came out blazing on offense and moved the ball while playing dazzling defense. The Lakers never found their rhythm and missed a lot of open shots which they usually make. The main problem was their defense because they are not the same defensive team when Anthony Davis is not playing and it showed on this game while not having their best defender, rim protector and anchor on the floor.
The Lakers trailed by eight in the 1st quarter and were outscored 32-10 in the 2nd quarter while just shooting 2-17 from the floor. Even King James had not any answers for the surging Suns and he just shot 3-10 in the 1st half and wasn’t taking advantage of the small defenders which he normally over powers them. James was just 25 in the 1st half and no Lakers were in double figures. While Devin Booker scored 22 in the 1st half himself.
At the half the Suns were leading by 66-36 a domination blowout and took the game 115-85 with a 3-2 series lead heading back to Los Angeles for game 6 on Thursday night.
The Lakers have a big hole to climb on Game 6 if they want to be back in the series in a do or die situation. It all depends on Anthony Davis’ status if he can play to extend the series for a deciding Game 7 if they are able to win Game 6.
The Lakers deserved this blowout, because the defense in the 2nd quarter was just awful and one of the worst we have ever seen in the playoffs, props to suns that seems to be the team who wants to win more. This was really a beat-down. Embarrassing and pathetic performance by the Lakers players. The Lakers didn’t seem to be able to recover from such a humiliation loss as there was no ball and player’s movement; the entire teams was just too lazy, looked fatigued and were not putting any pressure to go down on defense even in transition. The reigning defending champion should never ever be down 35 in the first round.
Chris Paul showed heart and leadership by continuing to play through that injury for his team. His shot and passing was off, yet he was still out there. Mad respect for what he did today. Devin Booker was truly in the zone throughout the match. The intensity was clearly seen in his eyes. Really gotta give props to Ayton, he’s been ballin since game 1 and out playing the Lakers bigs, he rarely gets the praises he deserves. Excellent victory for the Phoenix Suns.
