COVID 19 has shown its feature as large family of viruses which shows different types of symptoms ranging from common cold to more severe diseases like Mild Respiratory Syndrome and Acute Respiratory Syndrome. This virus is a new strain which has not been identified previously in the human being’s evolution.
Corona virus are transmitted between people and animal i.e they are zoonotic in nature. Investigation and research have shown that this virus has been transmitted from civet cats to human beings. Several other corona viruses are transmitted between animal to animal which have not affected human beings till date. Common symptoms of the corona virus are respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, common cold, shortness of breath, breathing difficulties etc. In more severe condition of corona various symptoms such as pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure which ultimately leads to death.
Frequent washing of hands, mouth and nose covering while coughing and sneezing, in taking meats and eggs only after thoroughly cooking, close contact with outsider who are showing the symptoms of respiration illness shall have to be avoided. These are those ways which may prevent us somewhere from getting infected from corona virus.
In the first wave, majorly the elderly people and the people who were suffered from lifelong affected diseases were get infected. Likewise, second wave is also causing devastating effects causing more harm to younger people. Analysing the trends of first and second wave of Corona Virus, researchers are estimating that children and those who are below the age of 18 are at high risk in the third wave of corona virus. Government shall be prepared by adding more beds in paediatric wards. Parents are also requested to be prepared to protect their children. Experts believe that the third wave is down the line and will be started very soon. No vaccines have been made for those who are of age group below 18 years. Before third wave is started, we all should be prepared for the questions “How to protect our children?”.
Before answering this question first of all we have to understand “Why this third wave is going to affect the age group of below 18?”. People having less immunity along with the children are going to be affected from the third wave of Covid. Also, third wave may not include children exclusively. Experts are expecting that children may be asymptomatic or may get less infection i.e mild infection. But in few cases, we may also get to see moderate to severe infection.
At the end we all should be aware of “What measure are to be adopted by the parents if their children get affected?”
Parents should keep close watch on the warning sign of severe symptoms of the children.
Multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS) is expected to be developed by the children after 2-3 weeks of the infection. Parents shall have to be well prepared. Early diagnosis and early treatment of MIS might help. What precaution are to be adopted during the time of isolation of the children? A child has to be isolated if he is of age of more than 10 years. But if the children are younger than the 10 years, parents should follow the COVID appropriate behaviour and also the parents are to be immunised. If the condition is not under the control, then the parents should concern the pediatricians. Home cooked diet rich in protein are recommended for the children. Hydration of the children shall have to be maintained. Children may have diarrhoea and vomiting. In this case parent may have to consult the doctor. If the children are having persistent high fever and breathing problem then the children shall have to be hospitalised immediately.
