Greece has started mass vaccination campaigns for the refugees. The vaccinations have started today for the refugees living in the camps on the islands of Lesbos, Chios and Samos. The refugees living in other areas will be inoculated next week.
Johnson & Johnson manufactured single shot vaccines will be given to the refugees by the staff from the Hellenic National Public Health Organization (EODY).
As per United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 91945 recognised refugees are living in Greece. As per officials, 15 percent of refugees have shown interest in getting vaccination. However, Manos Lohothetis, who heads the Reception of Asylum Seekers at the migration and asylum ministry, believes that more people will be interested once the vaccine campaign starts.
Greece has already administered five million vaccine shots for the total population of approximately 10.7 million people. Greece has also eased lockdown restrictions and is preparing for tourist season.
