Corona Virus is mutating and various variant is being seen day by day. Mucor mycosis also called as Black fungus which has recently been discovered and is increasing slowly and gradually day by day. This aggressive infection is expected to cause infection in nose, eyes and throat. This fungus has attacked both the patient recovering and recovered from the COVID. This fungus generally affects sinuses, the brain and the lungs and can be deadly for the patient who are suffering from the diabetic and may also affects the patient who are immunocompromised such as cancer patient.
As on date and as confirmed by the Ministry of Health and Population, 10 people have already been affected by the fungus in our country and many more people are expected to be affected as the spreading rate is very high. Out of 10 patient, 8 patient have already been contacted and 2 patients are yet to be contacted. Infected are suspected to be from Nepalgunj, Birgunj and Kathmandu.
Symptoms shown by the patient affected by this Fungus include fever, headache, chest pain, blocked nose, difficulties in breathing, pressure around the eyes, double vision, blurred vision, blood in the cough and black Color around the nose. Jawbones are removed via surgery to control the infection of the fungus. One has already died in Dhangadhi on Thursday morning. Biopsy test done in the patient confirm the black fungus as confirmed by Dilip Kumar Shrestha , Hospitals Information officer.
