The government of Nepal has appointed Balkrishna Basnet as the new president of the Nepal Press Council. The meeting of Ministers of the cabinet held yesterday decided on Balkrishna Basnet as the president. The Minister of Information and Communication, Mr Parbat Gurung recommended the name of Mr Basnet.
Basnet has a long professional career working with Kantipur. However, for the last two years, Basnet worked as an Editor on the portal KhulaNepal. Basnet had been appointed as a member of the Nepal Television Board earlier.
Recently, Nepal Press Council had caretaker presidents Kishor Shrestha and Gopal Budhathoki. The tenure of the new president is for four years.
Nepal Press Council is set up by the government of Nepal to promote a free press and advise the government in matters related to credible journalism.
