A 10-man India fought respectably well as they endured a 0-1 loss to Asian champions Qatar in a joint qualifying tournament match for the 2022 world cup and 2023 Asian cup in Doha on Thursday. The only goal of the match was scored in the 33rd minute by Abdel Aziz.
The Indian team was brought down to 10 men in the 17th minute of the game when Indian defender Rahul Bheke received a second yellow card. Bheke received his first yellow card in the ninth minute of the game.
Asian champions Qatar, currently ranked 58th in the international football ranking, dominated the game against 105th ranked Indian side. India will be facing Bangladesh on June 7 and Afghanistan on June 15 in its remaining qualification matches.
The Indian football team is still in contention for qualifying for the 2023 Asian cup but is sadly already out of the race to qualify for next year’s world cup.
