Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been urged to carry out repair works of Jama Masjid’s of Delhi built by Shahjahan in 1656.
Shahi Imam Bukhari, the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, wrote to his PM requesting him to direct Archeological Survey of India (ASI) to inspect the situation of the monument and perform the necessary repairs.
Shahi wrote the letter exactly two days after heavy winds and rainfall destroyed a minaret of the mosque.
The structure of the masjid is internationally renowned and yet is in dire conditions. The dilapidated structure keeps falling apart every day.
Delhi Waqf Board is in charge of the mosque’s maintenance, which was lashed on Friday by thunderstorm and rain showers accompanied by fierce winds travelling at 60 km per hour.
A slab of red stone separated from the mosque crashed below destroying the mosque’s floor.
Jama Masjid holds national importance and definitely needs conservation efforts to sustain the monument for the coming future.
