A US lobsterman almost got swallowed by a humpback whale while diving at the Ja’n J, off Herring Cove on Friday morning.
He and his crewmate had taken their boat to the Cove where conditions were excellent with water visibility of up to 20 ft.
Micheal Packard describes being inside the whale’s mouth for up to a minute when the whale finally spat him off leaving Mr. Packard with a single injury of dislocated knee.
Humpback whales can weigh up to 36 tons and grow as long as 50ft (15m) with their global estimated population at 60,000.
Although Mr. Packard had thought that his ending was near, he survived by the grace of the leviathan creature.
