Romelu Lukaku scored a brace as Belgium began their Euro campaign with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Russia. Standing on the top of FIFA world rankings, Belgium started the tournament as favorites for the title. They dominated most of the game and were soon rewarded when Lukaku was quick to act upon the mistake and score early for Belgium. He scored his brace in the 88th minute on the quick counter attack sealing the victory for his country. Thomas Meunier scored the second goal in the 34th minute to take the game past Russia in the first half.
Though Belgium enjoyed major ball possession throughout the game, Russia had some few good moments but lacked finishing on the final third. With this victory Belgium sits on top of the table, with a very healthy goal difference whereas the next game for Russia automatically becomes a must win if they have to keep any hopes of qualifying in the next round.
After scoring his brace, he was quick to send a message for his Internazionale teammate, Christian Eriksen, who collapsed during the game on the same day, and was hospitalized soon after he was carried out in the stretcher.
