England had never won an opening fixture of European championship but not this time. Raheem Sterling scores the only goal of the match as England beat Croatia in their opening game of Euro 2020.
The game was evenly poised at halftime as England dominated the game with the ball and was causing problems for the Croatian defense. Croatia looked dangerous at the counter and came back stronger in the second half with Luka Modric making the attempt which was saved by Jordan Pickford. The Croatian defense was broken down in the 57th minute when Kalvin Phillips slid Sterling to score the only goal of the match.
Harry Kane was also close to grabbing his first goal in this Euros, just for wood work to deny this effort. He was later substituted with Jude Bellingham, who made history at the Euros becoming the youngest player to appear at the euros at the age of 17.
With this win, England managed to win the WORLD CUP 2018 semi final rematch and snatch 3 points to place them top of Group table for now.
Croatia will now face Czech Republic at Hampden Park while England will face Scotland at Wembley on June 18.
